Project: KFC Kentucky Grilled Chicken Project (GCOB Project)
Project summary: Phase 1 of the project was to survey 1,300+ stores (275+ corporate locations and 1,100+ franchised locations) in a three week timeframe. The survey consisted of gathering site specific information needed in order to complete Phase 2 or the actual pre-work (installing electrical and plumbing lines and the removing/shifting of existing equipment in order to make room for new piece(s) of equipment. Note, the survey in turn created a site specific quote for each location. QSI was awarded Phase 2 for all 200+ corporate locations and 50+ franchised locations. Franchisees had the option to utilize their own electricians and plumbers, and most of them did.
Location: Completed survey at locations 1,300+, completed pre-work at locations 350+.
Job size: 1,300+ locations
Project dates: Survey completion dates, Oct. 13, 2008 - Nov 7, 2008. Pre-work completion dates, Nov. 23, 2008 – March 6, 2009.
Main challenges: Communicating/setting up our survey visits with the multiple franchisee contacts supplied to us. There were different phone numbers and contact names provided, some of which were no good. At a certain point, to minimize communication challenges, we implemented mass emails to groups. It took some additional work but once this was implemented it drastically reduced our communication problems.
Project partners/subcontractors: Quality Solutions, Inc. partnered with 4-5 of our main contractors to complete the surveys and the awarded pre-work locations.
Method/process: QSI approached this 1,300+ store roll-out just as it does a 130 store roll-out. QSI looked at the overall project timeframe and divided the locations as evenly as possible geographically to determine the number of technicians needed. Once this is determined all of the other pieces fall into place.
Results: Overall each phase of the project went well. We completed our surveys on time and in reference to our pre-work locations, these were completed well within the allotted timeframe.
